It would add an extra hour on each day is well worth the time - www.hockinghills.com, several posts on here as well. I am of course assuming you are returning from your Bourbon trip ?

Hi SAnParis2, you are correct! We will stay 0ne of two nights in Bardstown and then one or two nights in Shaker Village, depending how long it takes us to do what we want to do. I'm thinking probably two nights in Bardstown and then just one in Shaker Village, the Riverboat is still running and we want to do that before leaving Shaker Village. We have been to Hocking Hills and do love it there! Any suggestions appreciated!

Have been to Charleston, WV, and found no more than a day's worth of attractions to keep me there:

-Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences has a small (if fairly attractive) art collection and a miss-able little clutch of science exhibits.

-there's a complex of things by the capitol building, including an attractive enough Governor's Mansion (limited hours), history museum (quite good), and capitol building (notably more attractive from the outside than inside).

Whether it's all worth going out of your way for is definitely another question.

Charleston, West Virginia is my home town. I attended college in Huntington, and most of my remaining family lives in Charleston and Parkersburg. I have never heard of Hocking Hills. When I looked at the website, I see that it is in Columbus, Ohio. I'm not sure why that would suggested for someone looking for something to do in Huntington/Charleston and/or Parkersburg.

I'm certainly not going to say that Charleston/Huntington/Parkersburg have a number of attractions, but you don't need to drive to Columbus to have something worthwhile to see. West Virginia has lots of natural beauty. What about the New River Gorge bridge outside of Beckley? It is definitely an amazing thing to see. That whole area is pretty neat. Check out Pipestem State Park.

Sorry -- the New River Gorge Bridge is in Fayetteville, not Beckley, and I see that this past weekend was the 30th annual "Bridge Day", where brave people can actually parachute off the bridge. Google New River Gorge Bridge Day for details an beautiful pictures.
