Anyone going to PBR finals in Vegas next weekend?

Hi, We are going to Las Vegas next weekend to the first 3 rounds of Prof. Bull Riding Finals. Just wondered how many fellow fodorite's are also PBR lovers like we are. Have you been before and what's your favorite thing to do in Vegas, besides the PBR events?

Absolutely! We are actually going for the last day of finals at the Thomas and Mack center. This will be our 5th year and counting! The only reason we come to Vegas each year is for the PBR finals. Aside from the obvious gambling, seeing the shows and trying the new restauants are our favorites.
Were you at last year's PBR event? It was the most exciting to date. The enitre arena was standing and screaming wathing Justine McBride stay on his bull for the last ride of the season..it was incredible!
Have a fabulous time!

We just got back from Vegas tonight... had a great time! Finals were exciting and neat. Had not been to them since 2000. Tribute to Rob Smets on Sunday was touching and nice. Rob cried, me & my husband cried. I love him and have sure missed him. He is one of a kind for sure!
Be sure to go to FAN ZONE each day, especially on Meet & Greet Day. Great booths, lots of give-aways and the riders are there off an on most of the day. Be sure to take your Team PBR membership card if you belong... will save you admission fee on Meet & Greet day. Give Rob Smets another hug for me if you see him.
We like Vegas and don't get tired of it. Stayed at Hooters and it was nice, very nicely remodeled since we were there 1 1/2 years ago and it was the San Remo. Just a few min walk to Excalibur where we could catch the express tram to Mandalay Bay, which was nice. Can't believe how much Vegas has changed in 18 months. So many big buildings right on the strip gone & new building going on. And sad that tomorrow (10/31) is the last day for the Stardust, after 50+ years. They will implode it in November.
Just a shame the city won't adopt an ordinance to ban those trashy handouts that people constantly try to give you as you walk by. All they are good for is trashing up the streets. Makes the town look like a slum. I'd hate to be mayor and have my city known as "Sin City"... what a shame.
Have a great time. I can't wait to see the outcome. Going to be a close run, I think, for the Cup and the Finals titles. My money is on Wiley or Mike Lee for the finals, however, LJ Jenkins is now leading. The bullfighting competition for the year ended yesterday and a young Kansas boy won. He was on the same plane as us coming home today. Rob Smets has been announcing that competition throughout the year and they are doing a whole show about it, to be on tv later on.
Write when you get back. Where are you from? We live in Kansas.

First PG, thanks for coming to town. I hope you had a good time and I hope you will come back.

I just wanted to chime in on those handouts. First off, not that it matters, but the Strip is not in Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas begins on the north side of Sahara, so the only Strip hotel in Las Vegas is the Stratosphere. So when you see Oscar Goodman on TV representing Las Vegas, just know that he and the city council have no jurisdiction over those that pass out smut on the Strip.

The Clark County commissioners have tried several times to pass ordinances to outlaw these trashy magazines that are handed out to tourists. But every time they do, the ACLU gets involved and claims to be protecting the smut peddler's right to free speech.

The only way to get rid of the smut peddlers is to refuse to accept their handouts. If everyone did this, they would eventually go away. Unfortunately, that will probably never happen.

I don't know whether I agree or disagree with the premise that the ACLU takes, but I can tell you that the residents of Las Vegas would like to see the handouts disappear as much as you would. Just thought you'd like to know.

Great report! We watched the Saturday competition on Fox TV...I wonder whatever happened to NBC's coverage???
Perhaps they lost the contract. Fox is actually doing a better job. I would like to see Marchi win it...he's been having a great year. So happy that Mossy Oak Mudslinger won Bull of the Year! I have a collection of the stuffed retired bulls on my desk and now I can add him...unfortunatley I may have to get a bigger desk!
We are from Boston and will fly direct on America West (America West Vacations). We found their prices to be the best around.

We just last week had another defeat in the battle against the smut handouts. LV City council had passed an ordnance banning them in the Fremont Street Experience, wanting to keep it family friendly. That wonderful Federal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals with which we are saddled again decided it violated the smut dealer's free speach rights and invalidated it.

What great replies... thanks! To Vegaslocal..thanks for the clarification, which is interesting... in all the times we've been there, I didn't ever think about the strip not being part of the LV city limits. Yes, we love Vegas and WILL be back... already have 8 days of time share at FF Desert Inn reserved for March for the NRECA annual mtg/convention.
Glad to know locals feel the same way I do about the handouts. I never accept them. I for one DO NOT agree with the ACLU's premise when it comes to smut & trashy magazines. They call it free speech, I call it shameful.
Looking forward to coming back and plan to spend more time in downtown. The Freemont Experience is great fun and so cool.
As for PBR.. Saint 128.. please think of me as you are enjoying the finals this weekend. Enjoy & have fun! Marchi is a great guy and I hope he wins the BFT Cup. There's something about the Brazilian guys, you can't help but love them, they are so polite and respectful to the fans. I love to watch Paulo dance, I "bumped hips" with him & it was fun, but I have to be careful at age 55, I might throw something out of place! ha As for winning the finals, I can't decide who I want, maybe deep down I'm pulling for Adriano so he can have one last hoo-rah, as I feel he may retire in a year or two. But, can't not root for Ross, JW, Chris, Mike W, Mike Lee & Wiley. Rooting for Wiley, as my mom's maiden name was Petersen, spelled the same as Wiley's.
What section are your seats? We had VIP seating at the opposite end of the chutes, but can't complain since they were free! With all the big screens, there are not many bad seats anymore. What goes one while tv is showing commercials is always great, especially the one AND ONLY Flint!!!
Have fun. "Grandma"
