Anyone familiar with Redwoods Guest Cottages in Yosemite?

I read about these privately owned guest cottages that are located in Yosemite Nat. Park. They are called Redwoods Guest Cottages. I would love to know what you think of them? Good value? Good location? Should I investigate more for next summer? Thanks a lot.

You might be referring to The Redwood in Yosemite located near the Wawona Hotel. There are a number of houses or cabins of various sizes for rent. We stayed at one of the smaller one-bedroom units about 7 years ago. The accomodations were fine. However, you should know that you are about 25-35 minute drive from Yosemite Valley so the drive back and forth could get tedious after a while depending on how long you stay. You might consider trying to see if you can get reservations at the Yosemite Lodge if you plan on visiting the Valley and Tuolumne Meadows.

I like that area, but as noted, it is a bit of a drive to the central Yosemite Valley sites. We had a family reunion there a couple of years ago (though we rented the two houses directly from owners in our case). Much quieter than the valley. Not as many scenic day-hikes in the immediate area compared the the valley. Nice to be inside the park boundary so you didn't have to wait in the lines at the entrance station the way you do when staying in Fish Camp or El Portal.

I just returned from a stay at one of their houses this past weekend. (http://www.redwoodsinyosemite.com/getting.htm)

Found out about them on a past trip. Some friends were in one of the houses and we got invited a bit too late to find anything good. We ended up in one of the worst cabins available - their cabin seemed like First Class compared to our nasty steerage cabin.

I wish I could remember the foul one to warn you - but on a brighter note - I do know the number of the nice one we actually booked for ourselves on our return trip this last weekend - house 41A.
--------------------
Ugh, what bad memories - I just went through their entire list of cabins - and number 10 was the foul one. It reeked of cigarette smoke and the oven smelled of burnt plastic.

41A on the other hand was pretty nice - and accepts dogs.

We have used these cabins twice. Last time a few years ago.

I would recommend them if you want a place that is not the normal hotel room. You will feel like it is your home. Just get a good one with a full kitchen. They all have fireplaces and wood. I think most are privately owned so they are all going to be different. Be specific as to your needs.

We did not find the drive into the heart of Yosemite that bad. It is longer than being in the park, but we had no problem going in to have dinner at the Ahwanhee one evening. Not close, but not a deal breaker.
