Anyone ever been to the Detroit Airport

Hi, I am planning a trip to France in May and I will have a 3 hour layover in the Detroit airport. I was curoius if it had anything good to do for 3 hours such as restaurants, etc. I need to pass the time somehow!! Thanks!!

You probably won't have time to go anywhere. In case you didn't know - Detroits Metro Airport is ranked one of the worst overall in the US. And probably the worst part is getting a shuttle or taxi out of and back to the airport. Sorry!

I know what I'm going to say is politically incorrect but here goes anyway. I understand Detroit has the largest Arab population in the U.S. which would lead me to believe there will be many of middle eastern descent in the airport. Looking around and seeing lots of Arab men would definitely make me paranoid. And to those of you who say you wouldn;'t feel that same way, I say you're full of it.

I spent 3 hours in the Detroit airport last December. Although, I didn't exactly have the time of my life, it wasn't that bad either. There is a sports bar type restaurant which served a pretty good plate of nachos for about $7. They had TV's available and I did not feel uncomfortable as a female by myself in the bar. Walk awhile, get something to eat/drink and read a good book. Hope this helps. Laurie

You're getting some dated information in this posting. Detroit recently opened its new midfield terminal and so anyone who has not been through that hub within the past few weeks really can't give you a good idea of what the airport is like. I won't tell you that any airport is necessarily a stimulating environment, but I'm sure you will be able to kill your time in relative comfort and find a place or two to hang out. Frankly, I always feel like I'm in a mall at an airport anyway (Do they do that to get people to join airport clubs?) Happy Contrails and enjoy the nation's newest major air terminal!

Check out www.detroitfreepress.com. On the frontpage there is a link to the new terminal that should give you an idea of what there is to do, to eat, etc.

I spent a few hours there before going to China and I found it to be just fine. It was as nice as any other airport I have ever been in. There were plenty of shops and restaurants. Like I said--just about like any other major airport.

I bet the airport has a web site that would list all their services and give you a map.

Have a great trip!
