Anyone eaten at Gargiulos in NY?

We have the opportunity to take a bus tour to NYC which includes a show (Jersey Boys) and dinner at Garguilos on Coney Island.
Any comments would be appreciated.

With several thousand restaurants in Manhattan I wouldn't schlep all the way to Coney Island for dinner. The menu isn't very creative - just the same fare you'll find at over 100 other Italian restaurants in the city. Trying to serve a busload also brings the quality down 2 notches as well.

But that's just me - I'm not a tour bus type anyway.

Is Gargiulos still there???? ancient. And not good. Are the show and the dinner on the same night? Because the restaurant is at least a 45 minute drive from the theatre.

It sounds like Garguilo's sruck a deal with a bus comapny. Unless things have dramatically changed, there is no reason to go there.

The original Tontonno's is not far from there and they make fabulous pizza and their own weird hours.

Unless traveling to the city is very difficult for you I would just get my own theater tickets (picking the seats that YOU like) and then eat somewhere nearby - where the food is better - and not an hour away from the theater.

I agree with the majority. Don't waste your time with the Coney Island place.

The bus company must be getting a HUGE kickback.

Garguilos is fine...a true Brooklyn experience and the food is good, old-fashioned Italian food (Babbo it is not). They still have you write a number (1-100) on the paper tablecloth and if your number comes out of the shaker, free dinner. I'm sure someone got a free dinner sometime. We think Garguilos is better than it was 20/30 years ago. Plus, Jersey Boys is a tough show to get tickets. Sounds like a nice day to me.
