Any thoughts on the Peninsula in New York

Well, the address seems incredible but I have never stayed here. I last stayed at the St. Regis which was lovely I am booked for a few days later this month to do some shopping.

Any special things about this hotel I should know? What about the bar at the hotel? Anyone know about the spa? Thanks for any info you can give.

The Peninsula is a great place to stay with a vewry professional staff and nicely decorated, modern rooms. (We had a suite there on our wedding night, 3 years ago.) If you can swing it, definately get yourself one of the corner rooms. The views up and down Fifth Avenue are impressive.

The PenTop Bar, as mentioned, has a great view of the city skyline. You will pay for the view as drinks are about $16 a pop.

Great midtown location for tourists, close to everything. Incredibly overpriced bar, but great view.

location, location, location...=$$$$ that is the law of real estate and for bars as well. I'll have my $20 martini or whatever and report back next week. LMF

Very luxurious hotel but the food is dreadful. How can food look so luscious on beautifully composed plates but be completely devoid of flavour? I had a nice afternoon tea with excellent champagne instead of some insipid sparkling wine but even the sandwiches and pastries were a little on the bland side. Anyway, the rooms were exceptionally nice, if not in decor, in amenities. Fabulous bathrooms with high tech lighting systems there and throughout. Exquisite italian linens. I'd stay again and avoid the food. LMF

Roof top bar seemed the destination for young and kind of...shall we say, tacky types. I think there were quite a few "Working girls' there as the doormen were very specific that they couldn't stay in the lobby and had to do the special elevator to the bar. These were not the super gorgeous call girls that show up at the Pierre and St Regis. The hotel really needs to be attentive to this. LMF again
