Any suggestions for Yachats?

A very nice friend has offered us the use of his beach house for my birthday weekend. Any suggestions places to eat, shops, things to do?

There is a large motel/lodge, the Adobe, south of Yachats that has a breakfast champagne buffet on weekends that is worthwhile--you get a great view of the ocean and kids (and adults) enjoy climbing the rocks nearby. The food isn't gourmet, but it's plentiful and there is a wide variety. I really enjoyed the aquarium in Newport (to the north), especially the jellyfish displays and the seals cavorting through their areas. Poking through Yachats itself is fun if you like quirky little specialty shops. Then there are always the Sea Lion Caves to the south, which I haven't seen but some people like. The town has a good website that gives important information about the roads, which are being worked on: http://www.yachats.org/ Have fun--it's beautiful up there.

The Adobe is actually north of Yachats-
The restaurant and bar have wonderful views of the ocean - sometimes you see whales too.
In the town of Yachats there is the
restaurant La Serre - its quite nice but I prefer the Adobe because of the views.
The town of Newport is not far where there are many shops and restaurants -
Dont think you will run out of things to do if you are only there for a weekend.

when we were there a couple of years ago we really liked a casual restaurant by the name of The Drift Inn. Don't know if it's still there, but the food and beer were great! We absolutely fell in love with Yachats. Enjoy!

I'm glad to see the Adobe recommended. A year ago we were told to avoid the place and had a meal we didn't enjoy at La Serre. Has Adobe improved or was it always OK?

well neither one are what I would call fine dining- they are just OK - but the views from the Adobe are so great - almost anything tastes good in my opinion -

Thanks. We stayed at the Overleaf, which we liked. Has anybody stayed at the Adobe? How does it measure up?

I've stayed at the Adobe- the Overleaf is definately nicer however at the Adobe we had a corner suite - kitchen/
fireplace/balcony/ ocean views and we
really enjoyed it- not glamorous but Oregon Coast comfortable.
