My family (husband, wife and two 6 year olds) are considering the Mountain View Grand Hotel for a stay June 17-June 20, 2011. We are from Florida so really want a mountain experience with some easy hiking, swimming pools, good food. This resort also has a lot of amenities on site which is nice instead of driving all over for everything. We don't mind venturing out for some meals or activities but it's nice to know we can just hang out too. Does anyone have any experience with this hotel? Good or bad?
We are driving from Manchester airport so our options are many. I noticed this was a AAA four diamond hotel. Is it worth it? THe rates are reasonable. THe North Conway area was also recommended but I don't want an area full of outlet shops and traffic. We have enough of that in Florida! Any feedback?
Thank you.
Any opinion of Mountain View Grand Hotel in NH?

I have not stayed there, but happened to be out skiing with friends a few days ago and they were suprised that I had never visited. The feedback from them was good.
That being said, I live 8 miles outside of North Conway in the quaint town of Jackson. We have many wonderful hotels and restaurants.
Take a look at the Inn at Thorn Hill, The Wentworth (they also rent townhouses), The Christmas Farm Inn or Whitney's Inn.
You can come across the Kanc from Manchester, take Bear Notch Road up to Jackson and completely miss North Conway!
Once in Jackson there are plenty of options for hiking plus you are close to the Mount Washington Auto Road, Wildcat Ziprider, Attitash coaster and alpine slide, the Cog Railroad and the North Conway Scenic Railroad.
North Conway Village (away from the outlets) has some cute shops - the Penguin & Zebs are favorites. The is also the MET coffeeshop and the Frontside Gride. The Kearsage Cafe has great tacos/burittos/lobster rolls (cash only) and Wine Thyme is a cute place to sit out on the patio to enjot tapas and wine.
Great food at the Cider Mill (10 minutes away in Bartlett), Libby's Bistro in Gorham, The Oxford House (a bit further away in Maine) and right in Jackson there is the Shannon Door Pub (for pizza), The Thompson House Eatery, Whitney's Tavern, Wildcat Tavern and the Red Fox (more of a kid friendly place depending on the age of your kids).
Also in town is the J-town deli - all kinds of cute gifts, lunches to go for hikers, breakfast with the locals and basic groceries, wine & beer.
PS - Just noticed you had 2 six year olds!! Jackson is also two miles from Storyland and about a 45 minute drive to Santa's Village.
The Mountain View is a little remote. As long as there's plenty to do on site, you should be ok but if you want to do other things, you'll be doing a lot of driving. I thought the walls were thin and the DR etc too small for the number of guests they have. Keep in mind that DH doesn't like valet parking kinds of places.
All the tourist places like The Flume are further south on I93. Since you come from FL, a visit to the Flume should be on your list. DS and his family also like Polar Caves.
