My SO will be 50 in March and we'd like to do something special over the weekend. We don't want to spend a lot of $$$ because we're planning a longer vacation next summer. We're in northern Alabama and thinking about Disneyland??? Just as a "you're still a youngster" sort of trip. We've done lots of daytrips in the Chattanooga and Nashville areas, just looking for something a little different. Any ideas? All are welcome!

Have you been to Callaway Gardens on "your side" of Georgia? Lots to do there and they have a nice spa. Golf, biking, butterfly garden, and other stuff too. Not Disneyland, but...
That's an excellent idea! We drove past there once on our way to someplace else and it looked really nice! I just don't know if the gardens will be blooming in late March/early April ... thoughts?
The azaleas should be in their prime. Actually, it would be the best time of the year to go as far as the gardens go.
I'd stay at the new(er) lodge -

and their spa is very good. I bought candles for all the womenfolk in my family from the spa store. They had the most delicious scents available.
While you are there, you may want to take a little detour to the Little White House at Warm Springs if you've not been before. It won't take long and I found it very interesting -

The topography of that corner of GA is a lot like NEn Alabama. The same ridge runs through and it's really pretty for southern Georgia.
Do you mean Disneyland or Disneyworld?
Sorry, I meant Disney World (driving distance) ... but it doesn't matter now, 'cause I'm going to the Gardens!
Callaway Gardens often has special deals. Check out the website before you book and if you call, be sure to ask about any specials. As an Atlantan, I'm on CG's email list, and it seems that I get an email about special rates about every other month.
Thanks! I'll go to their website now and get on their mailing list myself!
