Any feedback on our roadtrip schedule would be much appreciated!
Hey everyone,
We will travel through the westcoast at the end of may 2014. We will move around a lot, and have soms periods where we stay with family and stay in one place, or make daily trips in the surrounding area. Feedback on our schedule would be more than welcome!
May 26: Las vegas
May 27: Las Vegas
May 28: Drive to Bryce NationalPark (Stay in Jucy Rental)
May 29: Bryce
May 30: Drive to Zion National Park (Stay in Jucy Rental)
May 31: Drive to North Rim Grand Canyon (Stay in Jucy Rental)
June 1: Las Vegas (Drop off Jucy Rental,Continue in normal car)
June 2: Drive to Sequoia National Park
June 3: Drive to Groveland
June 4: Groveland
June 5: Groveland
June 6: San Francisco
June 7: Santa Rosa CA
June 8: Santa Rosa CA
June 9: Santa Rosa CA
June 10: Santa Rosa CA
June 11: San Francisco
June 12: San Francisco
June 13: Drive to Cambria

You may want to view Cedar Breaks National Monument on your way to Bryce.

Some thought:
- Your time at Bryce/N. Rim seems VERY short. If that's all you can afford, time-wise, save it for another trip.
- June 6: Why not go right on to Santa Rosa rather than stop in SF? Add that night to your later time in SF.
- Fly home from LA rather than wasting the time driving back to Las Vegas. Spend the time on the coast or LA.

1. Why all the rushing around and then 4 nights in Santa Rosa? Are you visiting with family or something?
2. You don't have any time in Sequoia. It's an all-day drive from Las Vegas, you'll arrive late, then you leave in the morning?

Do you nened three total days in Las Vegas?
Sequoia is beautiful but one day while driving from Las Vegas on youw way to Yosemite doesn't do it justice. You will only see it for a few hours in daylight. Think about skipping it.
Bypassing Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur to race to Cambria and then blitzing through Santa Barbara for Los Angeles is not a good idea unless you have bad memories and want to just rush through one of the most scenic drives on the west coast.
This itinerary is not telling us at all what you are interested in actually seeing and experiencing. Perhaps a bit more detail would help us help you.

How much is 1 hot, boring day worth? Plus the gas. Plus what they might have done on the beautiful CA coast or in LA.
The RT from home to Las Vegas may already be booked, or may turn out to be cheaper than an open jaw.

I would also agree - try to stay in Yosemite if you can. Keep checking with the reservations office - and we like staying in the Tent Cabins in Curry Village.
And for the Bryce/Grand Canyon/Zion loop - I would suggest you leave Las Vegas by noonish - so you can get to Bryce for the Sunset and then be there the next am for the sunrise - the best times to view the Hoodos. I would then head over to the Grand Canyon and then wind up spending two nights in Zion - a bit of a rest up after your two other nights on the road.
And agree - if you can add another day to driving down the coast - would spend one night in either Carmel/Monterrey or Big Sur and then another in Cambria.
Driving back to Vegas from LA is no big thing - only 4 hours (except on a Friday afternoon) - with not that much traffic once you clear the greater LA area.

Thank you for the replies everybody! I will take everything into consideration. We do visit family here and there, so you guys are right about not always driving/staying in the most logical of ways. i will discuss this with the group and get back here with what we decided. Thx again!

2. As other have mentioned, one day won't be enough to really experience Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Also, you should consider Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey.
