Any Cheaper way to fly into Jackson Hole?

Hi

We are an Asian family of 3 adults and will be visiting GTNP and YS in June 2016

We will be taking a domestic flight from Las Vegas Mccurran Airport and into Jackson Hole Airport

As we will be staying in Teton Village, JAC was the closest airport, but seems to also be very costly

So far, only Delta, , UA, AA and Alaskan Air fly into JAC and are charging at least USD per pax/tkt

Would appreciate if anyone can suggest a more cost effective way of getting to YS from Nevada (other than driving of course)

Thanks!

The airport is small with limited flights allowed in. That means prices are higher than other airports around it. Supply and demand at work.

For YNP/ GTNP some folks use Salt Lake City, Billings or Bozeman or even Cody. All would require a drive to Jackson. It's always a trade-off between cost of fight and amount of driving time.

You could use kayak.com to compare flight fares.

Starrs has probably given you the best advice. I'd follow up on it.

Of the four other airports mentioned above, Bozeman in Montana is the closest at 227 miles. BUT you need to realize that Bozeman isn't exactly a hub city in terms of competition and the number of in and out flights.

You might be WISER to do this:

price the flight into Jackson as well as into Salt Lake (291 miles) and then price the cost of a car rental in Salt Lake.

Yes, you didn't exactly pick some cheap place TO BE, either.

You really don't have much choice - either fly or drive. No public transit.

It's a resort area in an out-of-the way location and you already have 3 major airlines flying into it, plus one more, which is more than many resort areas. You aren't going to get cheap.

They used to have fairly cheap flights there in winter from Washington DC on United, but those have gone up a lot in the last few years, also.

Your expectations of flight costs are probably unrealistic. You won't get any cheaper flight from other places, either, it would cost you as much from LAX, also, and almost as much from SLC, but then you'd have to get there. And the flight from LAS probably goes through SLC, anyway, so it would be cheaper to fly from LAS through SLC than to get to SLC some other way on your own.

You don't say what the fare is that you find so unusual, but you can always play around with the dates or time of day a bit.

This morning I tried to give you a link to Allegiant Airline.
https://www.allegiantair.com/
We'll see if the link works now.
Allegiant flies from Las Vegas to both Idaho Falls ID and to Missoula Montana.
You should check the schedule and rate calendar to see if they would meet your needs on the day that you want to fly.

Keep in mind if you fly Allegiant that the price they show will be basic starting price. Extra charge for a seat, extra charge for luggage and a fee if you check in at the airport as opposed to checking in on line. Can add up quickly!

Allegiant flies into Bozeman and Billings from Las Vegas, too. But the days and times are quite limited.
