antelope canyon

Could anyone tell me about the tour of Antelope Canyon? Do you have to climb down a ladder to get to the canyon? Would a real city person and inexperienced hiker like my husband and myself be able to do it?

Upper Antelope Canyon is a real easy walk. My brother-in-law has really bad knees and can hardly walk but didn't have any problems doing this tour. We just did it earlier this month. We had just a little over an hour in the canyon.

Our guide took us thought pretty fast pointing out features on the way to the other end and then she let us walk at our own pace back. We had plenty of time to take pictures and watch the sun come into the canyon at one point. I finally got a few pictures of it up on my web page.

We did not do Lower Antelope Canyon because of time factor but in the Lower Canyon you do have to climb down ladders. Also the Upper Canyon is where you see most of the pictures.

BTW, you have to now have a guide to do the Upper Canyon. You can get one in the town of Page, AZ like we did or you can go to the Upper Canyon entrance station 5 minutes from town, and the Navajo's will take you in for a cheaper fee. At Lower Canyon you have to pay the daily entrance fee but you go in the canyon on your own. If you have already down upper canyon you will have already paid the entrance fee and can also do lower canyon.

Wow, what pictures!

What did you use? Regular camera with film (what ASA index?), or a digital one?

Barthox,

Thank you. We have a Canon PowerShot G3 Digital Camera. I was amazed at the quality of the pictures that a mere amature like myself could get in the canyon. I played around with different settings while we were in the canyon. I took 75 pictures in the canyon, but they all didn't turn out. I'd say I have about 20 that are decent and another 20 pictures that are very good.

I love my digital camera. I took over 700 pictures on the two week vacation. I have other scenic spots that I will get up on my website soon.

Great pictures! Were you there at the optimum time for catching sun in the canyon, do you know? They look pretty darned good. Our daughter uses the same camera and got some incredible shots in Africa this summer--great detail and color on both yours and hers.

I'm looking forward to seeing some more shots from this vacation so let us know somehow when you add them, OK?. 700 pictures!! And I thought we were bad. How many flash cards do you have??

Thanks OliveOyl and cd.

We were in Antelope Canyon at one of the optimum times of the day. We there from 11 to just a little past noon. When we entered the canyon the sun wasn't shining in on the floor and it wasn't until we exited that it came in to take those last two pictures on my website.

I would have liked to get a picture of what they called "the bear", but that wasn't until about 3:00 P.M.

We have three compact flash cards for the camera. It came with a 32 bit and we purchased a 128 bit at Costco and a few months later a 256 bit (just for the trip) at Costco for the same price as we had paid for the 128!

I won't be putting all 700 on my website! I pick out a few of the best
