ABSOLUTELY!! We have a flight for next week with seats confirmed for about 3 months and have had the flights changed 4 times. Each time I needed to have seats reassigned so I'd suggest you keep checking your status.

I reconfirm flights too. Last year with United, we were using FF miles, so we had our flights reserved 10 months in advance - in that time, our flight times and numbers were changed 2 or 3 times and our seat assignments were dropped. I was checking our reservations online every couple months or so and was able to get new seat assignments each time rather than having to take whatever was left when we turned up at the airport to check in.
Just now I checked our reservations for our next trip and sure enough, our flight times and numbers had changed - fortunately our seat assignments were still in effect.

I've had a reservation for Paris in July which I booked last September. The connecting flight has changed twice. The seats have changed accordingly.
I would definitely check your airline's website several times prior to the actual flight date. Sometimes those seat changes aren't to the most ideal (for you) spots and better to deal with that directly well before the day of departure.
Checking also keeps you abreast of the actual time of departure.

Last July, I purchased tickets to Rome for December. The flights changed three times and I had to call the airline to confirm seat assignments (perhaps because it was an international flight?). Delta did not call to alert us of the changes, I found out when I checked status on-line.
