Another NYC Taxi vs. Car Service
Hi Ya'll -
I am coming to NYC with two other folks this weekend and have reserved a car service at $43 from Newark to La Quinta Manhattan (I have free nights) but it does not include tolls etc... How much more expensive is this than us just getting a Taxi? I am not worried about 20 bucks but if it is significant I might change.

GoTravel, are you sure about the set taxi fare EWR to Manhattan? There wasn't such a set up the last time I went, and I see no mention of this on the Newark airport website
JFK to and from Manhattan is on a set fare, but that is all within New York city. Since Newark airport is in New Jersey, there'd have to be some cooperative arrangement.
bigjoe8, the fare you were quoted is absolutely fine, and may be less than the metered rate, but is the car service going to be waiting for you? If so, they will charge you a parking fee and a waiting fee.
If you just call for the car when you arrive (after you get any checked luggage) , the car service just diapatches someone and all you pay is the quoted fee plus toll and tip

From Newar (EWR) to Manhattan, take a car service.
A few nights ago I made the mistake of not reserving a car service (I thought my flight landed at LGA), and I was forced to take a taxi. The cost was $66 plus tolls & tip.

I should have added, the $66 fare from EWR to Manhattan was NOT metered -- it was a set fare told to me by the dispatcher on Monday night.

Taxi fares from Newark airport ARE fixed, including those to Manhattan, see .http://www.newarkairport.com/Commuti...axi_rates.html
However, the rates to Manhattan are based on where you are going in the city, so they range from $40 to $60.
