Great trip report. I wondered about silver sky airlines. I don't care for them or cape air.
Try Banana café for breakfast next trip. Isn't the new firehouse pretty? There are some great shops by Blue Heaven. I love the side streets for shopping.

We have tried Banana Cafe a few years ago and do love that restaurant too for breakfast. Next time we'll be sure to go back there. Yes the new firehouse is just lovely. It will be nice to see when everything is complete. Its just a shame they took out a lot of the trees out. Not a fan of silver airways. I much preferred Gulfstream that we used in the past. I wasn't crazy about Cape Air either but I think they were much better then Silver... hopefully they can turn it around.

I am just happy you didn't go to Backspace kitchen and bar. They bought Finnegan's, our favorite place in KW and turned it into a tiki hut/Tommy Bahama themed place. Menu is very boring, pricey and they are rude to locals. We have a sort of pi$$ing match going on with them because they took over Finnegan's facebook page with all their reviews and followers and could go on and on. Hoping they go back to NOLA.
There are some great places to eat in KW.

Great report! How was 7 days in Key West? Your alarm story is my biggest fear when traveling. Except for losing my camera. Which did happen. Where are you off to next? Due to other things going on this summer, no big family trip this year, but we are going back to KW in early December. Deciding whether to fly in or drive from FLL. Flying right in is so easy though. But the overseas highway is beautiful. Then back to the Caribbean hopefully in April...Tortola, Turks or Anguilla.

Hi Kristen! Thank you! Yes we really did enjoy 7 days. I think its the perfect amount of time. Maybe even push it to 8 since you really can't count the last day since we always leave early in the morning. I know after traveling since 2001 with my husband I have never had that happen with the alarm. Next time I will give the car service our home # too just in case so he can call the house phone - not just my cell phone.
We are actually headed back to Key West again in July for 4 nights/ 5 days. I guess you can say we can't get enough! We always fly in - never have done the drive. Maybe if we push it to 8 days we would try the drive. I usually just want to get there as quick as possible!
Then back to St. John (USVI) in October.

Very good restaurants that we have hit in the past with really good food are:
Deuce’s Off the Hook
Roof Top Café (beautiful setting at night)
Café Sole
Grand Café
Michaels
Casual Really Good Food:
Garbo’s Grill (food truck relocated to behind the bar Grunt’s on Caroline St.)
Smokin’ Tuna (be sure to see Caffeine Carl before)
Sunset Pier at Ocean Key Resort (great place to see just look out on the water – and AL the bartender is great)
Kelly’s (great wings for happy hour)
2 Cents
Santiago’s Bodega (everyone recommends this place but when we went last year we weren’t very impressed – I think more because of the service)
Breakfast:
Blue Heaven (bloody mary’s and lobster eggs benedict)
Sarabeth’s
Deuce’s Off the Hook
Banana Cafe
Bagatelle’s
Pepes (but my husband wasn’t crazy with his eggs benedict – but maybe that’s not the thing to order here, I really enjoyed my omelete special)
Croissant De France (REALLY good eggs benedict – severed on brioche bread)
Deuce’s Off the Hook
