Trip Report Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center (ASGAC)

Jump to last reply

Each year, the above hosts an Arts Fest. This year they are celebrating 20 years. I've never attended the arts fest but a friend is there and I thought it might be time to see it. FYI, I've done a TR on this venue in the past when my arts group visited it a few years ago.

The Art Fest continues tomorrow from 10-5 in case you are in the area. Today, traffic was heavy, lines to get in and parked long, and lines for food also long but things were pretty organized.

There were 165 artists/craftspersons/vendors and they were mostly in tents along the meandering pathways in this lovely venue. About 20 were inside the actual building. ASGAC is affiliated with the Smithsonian and there are some really great outdoor sculptures on permanent display from the Hirschorn. Additionally, local docents and a foundation keep art things going on all year long.

I arrived around noon to find that traffic was detoured to the next exit (the one with a traffic light) and U-ied back to the correct road and free parking. It took about 15 minutes for me to park and walk. $6 entry for adults.

The walk along the paths was mostly shaded and enjoyable. My friend makes jewelry in argentium silver, makes beeswax candles and votives (with dried flowers inside--so pretty) amongst her many talents. Many jewelers, textile artists, potters. One guy makes life-sized animals out of driftwood and they are truly amazing!

If this is your "thing", it took me about 1 hour to get there from Deale Maryland. About the same from D.C. Here's the link: http://www.annmariegarden.org/ I'll post a photo tomorrow.
