Anniversay in Newport?

Its our 1st anniversary this April, and I want to make plans at an amazing/romantic inn/hotel in Newport for a quick weekend getaway. I'm stuck between the beautiful Castle Hill Inn and the Legendary Inns which include Cliffside, Adele Turner, and Abigail Stoneman Inns. Does anyone have trip reports, suggestions, opinions? I want to pick a place where the service is unbelievable. Also, do you recommend going out for dinner at specific restaurants in Newport or to eat dinner where we stay? All comments very much appreciated...

I've stayed at the Cliffside and the Adele Turner - both outstanding properties. I wouldn't recommend one over the other. The Adele Turner is less expensive than the Cliffside. when we stayed at the Adele Turner I had booked the least expensive room and when we checked in, they upgraded us to any available room, so we ended up with a suite. The bad part - it was right off the kitchen so mornings weren't real quiet - it wasn't awful, though. I haven't atayed at the Abigail Stoneman -it is very expensive. My husband and I enjoyed both. They run pretty good specials - go to their website and sign up for e-mails. As far as dinner, we didn't go for anything fancy. A lunch that stuck out as very nice was a restaurant overlooking the outdoor tennis court at the Tennis Hall of Fame - but I can't remember the name. I've read a number of things about Castle Hill Inn and it sounds very nice. Let us know how you make out! Make sure you do the Cliffwalk. That was really nice. We toured all of the mansions that were open (we went both times at Christimas). We really enjoyed them. Have fun.

Hi Matty,
This is easy!....Castle Hill is by far the best..you can't beat this location and this beautiful inn. the views are to die for...reserve a table by the windows for your dinner!

Castle Hill is great, to stay or just to dine. For dinner in warmer weather you can choose the porch which is casual. The dining room is lovely, the food is excellent and the menu is interesting. By all means, check the sunset hour and be at Castle Hill for that - they have a vista across the bay. Cocktails and hors d'oervre on the porch and a sky show right in front of you, sailboats in the foreground.

View from the Castle Hill Inn is great, however there will be very few sailboats out there in April!

Congratulations on your first anniversary! I would conquer with the Castle Hill recs. It's absolutely the best as far as romance and beauty. For dinners in Newport (Castle Hill is maybe 4 or 5 miles down the coast from Newport proper) I would recommend the following:

-Castle Hill for the dinner to celebrate, Puerini's for a little more casual but still excellent dining, and Tucker's Bistro. There are more restaurants that are guaranteed good, in fact if you stay at Castle Hill the concierge can make some excellent recommendations. Have a great time and come back to this forum with a report. Love to hear how your stay goes.
