Amtrak 2 for 1 - Where should we go?

Looking for a nice place to visit sometime in June, July or August. Only have one week off of work. Husband and I trying to figure out where to go. We want to go somewhere that we don't need a car and we can get a hotel for under $150 per night. Any suggestions?? A scenic train ride would be nice too but not neccesary. Thanks in advance!

Geogia, what city are you originating from? That would help.

Should also mention that we live in Chicago and are in our 30's. We loved anything from New York City to the white sand beaches of Florida. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

New Orleans is a great destination and summer is off-season, although it can be quite hot (as can the entire South during this period). June is the best time to go of the months you mentioned.

We went out west to Arizona. Stayed in Flagstaff, used Grayline tours to see around the area, petrified forest, monument Valley, etc. Took Grayline 1 way to Grand Canyon (booked Bright Angel Lodge) and stayed 2 nights then took Grayline back to Flagstaff for train home. Great trip.

You might try Boston. You'd have to stay on the outskirts to avoid $150, but the trip is nice and you won't need a car. The route between Albany & Pittsfield is especially beautiful.

Or how about going to Montreal from Albany or Schenectady? As Amtrak winds along Lake Champlain is another beautiful (and slow) ride.

You could also go to DC, but it would likely be very hot & humid.
