Amilia Island - FA What to do?

My husband and I are going to Amilia Island in May. I would like some suggestions as to what to do and where to go. I know we are staying at the Ritz Carlton.

you will love the Ritz at Amelia Island. There are quaint shops in the area. Take the short ferry ride to Mayport. Lots to do in Jacksonville which is a short drive. Amelia is wonderful for biking, sunning, tennis and being pampered.

Help! We are going to be in Northern Florida over the weekend of Feb. 13-16th and need some good suggestions on places to stay, things to do. Was considering Amelia Island, or St. Augustine.....Any suggestions for restuarants, moderately priced hotels or B&B's or other entertainment ideas would be appreciated. Have looked in travel books, just want ideas from people who have actually BEEN there.

While at Amelia Island, you might enjoy "downtown" Fernandina Beach, for shops and restaurants. An especially good restaurant is Beach St. Grill, reserve ahead. A ferry ride to Cumberland Island (where J. Kennedy was married) is an interesting day trip. If golf is of interest, the course @ the Ritz is nice, and up the road on I-95 are two great courses, Osprey Cove, and Laurel Island Links.

When we arrived at the Beech Street Grill last fall (with reservations made by the manager of The Ritz-Carlton Club, nonetheless), we found that our table was located adjacent to the upstairs bar--where several employees remained and chatted for the duration of our meal. Despite the excellent service and food, the atmosphere detracted greatly from our experience.

In addition to the Beech Street Grill, you may wish to try Baxter's, located just a few minutes away from The Ritz-Carlton.

Search Yahoo! for Amelia Island and you'll find a few websites with useful info, including restaurant names.

If you have any questions regarding The Ritz, feel free to e-mail me.

The Budweiser plant in Jacksonville was of interest to me and my horse loving neice. (Clidesdale stuff)
