American Honeymoon in March

Hello everyone

We are off to America and Mexico for our honeymoon in March 2015. Yay!

We are planning to visit Disneyland Florida, The Grand Canyon Nevada, Universal Studios LA etc.

Is it best to buy tickets for these here (in Australia) or at the venue or get the hotels to organise for us?

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

FL is DisnyeWORLD - way bigger than CA Disneyland with 4 different parks. Typically tickets are not discounted (except for scams). For info I would look at Disboards web site - but think basically better to get tickets you know are legitimate on the spot. Also - there are a lot of benefits in staying on site - but hotel prices are usually much higher than in most of Orlando.

For Grand Canyon you don't need tickets but you do need hotel reservations. Not sure of your plans there - if you are hiking down you MUST have ressies - and it may already be too late. Also be awar it can still be cold at that time of year.

Don't know about Universal.

Re: Grand Canyon. There is a fee to enter the park -- $25 for per vehicle, about half that for bicycle, feet or motorcycle. It's good for a week. Pre purchase not possible or needed unless you're purchasing a US Parks pass.

You don't need reservations to day hike. Overnight hikes require reservations & permits.

The website has all of the pertinent info:

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Consider visiting Disneyland in Anaheim while in the LA area to visit Universal.
There are discounts if you buy a 3 day and up parkhopper which also includes one Magic Morning where you get into the park one hour ahead of time. Also FYI folks from Australia can buy 10 day tickets for a little more than the price of a 5 day ticket through local travel agents and Flight Centre. Just FYI, no idea how long you are planning for Disney. Disneyworld does have the four parks but it doesn't have the California Adventure or the Carsland ride that Disneyland does. Just depends on what you are interested in.
You might also like Six Flags Magic Mountain for coasters, or Knott's Berry Farm near Disneyland.

Please note that
1) you can visit Universal Studios in Orlando.
2) you can visit DisneyLAND in L.A.
In other words, you don't need to fly coast to coast to visit both Disney and Universal.
3) the Grand Canyon is in Arizona, not Nevada. Las Vegas is in the latter state, and some people fly there in order to visit The Canyon.

I STRONGLY urge you to visit either Orlando or Los Angeles, but not both. A honeymoon is a time to get to enjoy being married to each other, not to fly 4000 kilometers in the middle of a "vacation."

It depends on your interests - but IMHO EPCOT and Animal Kingdom - probably the most interesting for adults (unless you are just looking for thrill rides) are only in World in Orlando.

If you want primarily thrill rides I'm not sure any disney is the best place for you.

We are away for 3 weeks, 1 week in Orlando Florida, 1 week in Cabo San Lucas Mexico, and then 2 nights in Vegas Nevada and two nights in LA (we have to fly out from LA anyways to fly back to Australia, so we figured we may as well spend a couple of days there)
We were planning on Disneyworld (sorry, I get confused as there is so many "Disney" places") in Orlando (just the main one, not the animal kingdom etc) and Harry potter world (big kids haha) but not sure what else for the other 2-3 days?
Mexico is a relax spot.
Vegas we want to do a night on the strip and also a helicopter tour of the canyon.
And then LA we are planning on universal studios (as I've heard that ones better than the one in Orlando, is that right?)

Disney in FL has 4 parks:

Magic Kingdom - the old originals and lots of rides for little kids
EPCOT - more like a world's fair - World showcase with buildiings/exhibits/rides or attractions from several major countries plus restaurants and the "topic" exhibits; energy (fascinating with great dinos), undersea and a bunch of others
Animal Kingdom - a safari park with a number of rides
Disney's Hollywood studios - has a couple thrill rides plus a lot of hollywood/famous movie themed stuff

To do all of this you need to allow at least 4 days. I would suggest you look at the attractions in details to see which ones you are most interested in.

Also a heli tour of the GC is NOT recommended - the area the helis can visit is strictly limited and you see much more by actually visiting and doing a hike - even a brief one (no need to spend several days to get to the bottom and back out)

nytraveler is right, the helicopters do not take you to the National Park but to tourist trap Grand Canyon West. Drive yourself there or take a tour (although the tour will only spend a couple of hours at the Canyon due to distance from Vegas).

Yeh we are good with just a few hours. Trying to see as much as we can while we are over there! We did 8 countries in 4 weeks of South America past year, so after that, this will seem like snail pace haha driving ourselves to the canyon sounds great as well, will look into car hire!

FYI, Harry Potter world is at Universal Studios in Orlando. Harry Potter world in Los Angeles is due to open in 2016.

It's your honeymoon, but it just sounds like a big waste of time and money to me for you to go to Florida just to go to DisneyWorld. I'd spend that time doing something out west. Is DisneyWorld really that important to you?

FWIW, I have a friend who is a Disney fanatic, don't know why, just has been for a long time. Her kids have all things Disney, they go there for family vacations, etc. She told me that she and her husband went to Disneyworld for their honeymoon, in fact, and then she added "... not a good idea." I didn't ask more because I don't like that kind of stuff but thought it was kind of funny as she loves Disney but even she said that was a big mistake for a honeymoon.

Fl in March is nice and not as busy for Disney. I love Epcot. There are places to stay at in Disney that are reasonable. The downtown Disney area is very nice for night clubbing and there are hotels there that give you a lift to the parks for free. The Disney hotels will also pick you up at the airport and then you won't need a car. If you are driving you could go to Cocoa Beach for the day. About an hours drive due east. Water will be cold but you could see the Atlantic ocean and hang out on the beach, sun will be nice.
