Live in Sarasota most of the time. Usually, sunny, beautiful, sometimes too hot, sometimes too muggy, but generally speaking great weather.
In summer we get heavy but short lasting afternoon storms and that's understandable. We do need the water.
This year has been exceptional. We are getting buckets full of rainfall daily, but it still has been pretty much an hour or 2 event in the afternoon. That's the good part, but today I felt I'm back in my favorite city in the world, Chicago - IN OCTOBER. No, it's not the temperature, that's still hot and muggy, but it has been and still is RAINING heavily all day, with heavy cloud cover and no sun in sight. Plus when the storms roll inland they come with short lived but extremely strong winds.
No sunset tonight. ![]()
It's time like this that I feel really bad for the families that come down to visit for a week and so far the week has been miserable. This is suppose to be their time to enjoy our beautiful beaches, the kids building sand castles, etc. NOT THIS WEEK.
To top it of, this is the July 4th/Boat Races week. Many activities going on already. Tomorrow a huge event, a boat parade down Main St, but if it's like anything like today, it will be a non-event. Kids love the parade. Saturday, the fireworks and again if it's anything like today, it will be a big flop.
So please Mother Nature, we beg you to give us a little break. Thank you for all the water. In fact, our county officials are celebrating as this is one of the very few years during the last decade that our water levels are full.
Let the sun break through and let the families and kids enjoy all the activities. PLEASE!! ![]()
and how is it in your part of the country?
btw, Happy Canada Day to our northern neighbors! Hope you're having better weather!
Am I in Chicago?

Today in Chicago is just like today in Sarasota, which is very much like October in Chicago! The weather here in Chicago today was mid-60s, rained all morning, cloudy all afternoon.
Thankfully the forecast for the 3-day weekend looks fantastic! Low 80s and sunny!
Greetings from rainy Seattle - not. 80°F (27°C) and both mountain ranges are out including the big guy. Nice breeze, not humid at all, and the forecast is for more of the same (maybe a couple of degrees warmer) through Friday, then partly sunny and cooling off to the low 70s for the 4th. My tomatoes are swelling like balloons.
Here in NW Wisconsin it has been cool, damp and cloudy all week long. Feels like our typical fall (late Sept) weather. My poor daughter and her family are camping this week for their annual vacation and they have had to run the furnace in the camper every night. Instead of tee shirts and shorts its been sweat shirts and jeans. The funny part is that last week it was hot (96 degrees) and humid!!
On the bright side its suppose to warm up for the holiday weekend.
Happy to report that the boat parade was very succesful last night. It was overcast and grey but finally NO RAIN!
It's a beautiful sunny morning but I expect the afternoon showers and that's fine.
I believe the worst is over. We're back into our regular weather patterns so tomorrow should be a great evening for the fireworks.
