After much deliberation, we decided to cancel our annual family vacation to the Alabama Gulf Coast due to the oil spill. We are really disappointed because we've always had a fantastic time there, but we were just too concerned about what the situation might be like in 30 days... We are looking for another vacation idea (doesn't have to be a beach) - here are our requirements:
1. Within driving distance (8 hours or so) from New Orleans.
2. Condo with full kitchen.
3. Nice pool area with water slide (lazy river a plus)
4. 3 or 4 sites to see - we don't just relax by the pool the whole time...
5. Activities appropriate for young kids (ages 2, 3, 4, 7), 4 parents, and 2 grandparents.
6. Not Orlando - just went.
We've found some great hotels that meet our requirements, but not condo's. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Kim

Go to Florida's gulf coast. We are going to Panama city beach in July. Regardless of the oil spill. We have sunshine and swimming pools. I am not gonna cancel my trip.
Oh yeah, Panama city has a large water park, Gulf World and mini golf. They also have Shell Island. We love it and can't wait. There is also a new beach side mall , Pier Park. There are other things here to do. More to do there , than in Gulf Shores. We just plan on relaxing. Nice condos, Majestic beach resort, Long Beach resort and this year Sunbird. Lots of nice gulf front resort/condos. Enjoy sitting on balcony and enjoying the ocean view.
