Transbridge bus does this route several times a day. It arrives at Port Authority Bus Terminal which is right near Times Square

Early morning buses are filled with commuters so you may want to take a slightly off peak bus
You only have two choices: the commuter bus (Transbridge) or driving your own car. For Manhattan, the bus is best since you don't want or need a car in Manhattan. There's daily service.
I suppose you could also drive to one of the NJ Transit Park and Ride lots and take the train from there. It might be marginally faster to do that.
