All Inclusive Skiing??

Does anyone know of some all inclusive ski packages in New England? Or resorts that include meals? We are looking for a nice ski resort within a driving distance from Boston or NYC. Thanks!

Some of the bed-and-breakfasts around Killington provide breakfast and dinner, and I think there are some really upscale ones in that category. Seem to recall some around Sugarbush as well (which is a less zoo-like area to ski than Killington). Check links from either of those 2 ski areas to lodging providers.

If you want to drive a little further, the ski areas in the Eastern Townships of Quebec (Sutton, Orford, & Owl's Head) are fun & not usually overcrowded. Again, bed-and-breakfasts with both breakfast & dinner are available. We stayed at the Auberge des Appalaches in Sutton. The rooms are VERY basic (double beds, tiny bath, no TV), but clean. However, the dinners - gourmet!!! Staff was very nice, too, & the common areas were nice for relaxing. Reasonably priced packages, too. A bit of a cultural experience as well, as it seems to be a predominantly French speaking area (but, don't worry, most people speak English as well, just not necessarily as well!)

In Winter Park, the Timber House Ski Lodge includes breakfast, afternoon snacks and dinner. It is family owned, and has the friendliest guests we've ever met.

Out west is Club Med at Crested Butte. I haven't been there, but have been to the Club Med at Copper Mtn (now closed for a few years) several times. Includes all meals, lift ticket, lessons, room, some amateurish entertainment, etc.

Why do you want an all-inclusive? I think it can be sort of boring - eating all your meals the same place. It might not actually be that cost effective either.

If you want to really have a BLAST head up to Mont. Tremblant and stay in the Pedestrian Village someplace. Not cheap - but super fun. The pedestrian village is all walking only. It has tons of little shops, bars, restaurants, a fire pit outside and great hotels with outdoor pools and hot tubs. There are also lots of condos there. The mountain is very very good. They just ended sort of a nasty strike up there - but apparently it is over.

Gray Rocks is really a beginner ski area. Very family oriented. If that's what you're doing it is nice.

wliwl - Most times I'm not an all-inclusive person - I like variety of going out to eat - but, I can tell you the times I've gone all-inclusive were far from boring! Pick your place right, and dining is a treat EVERY night at a all-inclusive. It's just another type of vacation experience. BTW, I never looked to save money doing this, but looking back I probably did, and had a variety of, honestly, gourmet quality meals in the process....but, your mileage will vary, as they say!

Plus, on a ski vacation, after a refreshing and tiring day of skiing - it can be good to stay put and not have to bundle up and go looking for a restaurant. This is why my other favorite ski resort lodging is the condo (make some meals, order in pizza).

Anyway, for the person who asked about all-inclusive in the West - Alta has some lodges, never stayed there (although I have skied Alta). Love to try the lodges some time.

Also, there is the - don't laugh too hard - Tahoe Tropicana in South Lake Tahoe. The rooms are, well, at least when I was there, VERY worn with mismatched appointments. But clean. You get vouchers for the restaurant and ski passes in your package. That restaurant is SO good - dine there while in South Tahoe even if you don't stay there. (Given the quality of the room, you definitely WILL (a) save money here, and (b) eat VERY well.)

Second the Timberhouse in Winter Park. You can ski home to it, although it is secluded and not right on the slopes. Great food and while we're not all-inclusive travelers, it is nice after a long day of skiing to have a hot meal served, no dishes, and no hassle about what or where to eat.

There's The Balsams resort in New Hampshire. It has a great reputation.

Thanks KMK, spin2, & Joyce,

I'll call the Tahoe Tropicana--that may be exactly what we're looking for in terms of clean, inexpensive, and connected w/ skiing.

i'll also check out Winter park and The Timberlawn.

Both Tahoe & winter park might have better packages than the well-known ski destinations. Don't know, but it's certainly a good bet & well worth the try.

i'll report back. if anybody else has any ideas for trying to keep a family ski vacation reasonably priced, we'd love to hear them. thanks so much!

Joy

Tahoe Tropicana is www.tahoetropicana.com. Just don't get your expectatations TOO high on the room quality - you can see from the photos, it was an old motor lodge type place, and it is worn around the edges. I stand by the clean comment, though - we went with a whole group of people, and while the age & decor of the facility (as well as the thinness of the towels, which definitely needed replaced!) were a source of ridicule, everyone was happy with the cleanliness of the place, and the value. Staff was very nice & attentive as well. For us it was great because it was also right across the street from the casinos. (Plus the food - yum!)

The other way to save money on a ski vacation is to stay a bit away from the mountain (say, stay at the Super * in Georgetown if you are skiing Summit Co, Co.) - then, of course, you have a drive every morning.

And/or stay in a condo (you can then cook your meals, although for some people that makes it not so much like a vacation!)

I do know there are also resorts that offer discounted skiing for children...sometimes free with ticketed adult - but, this depends on the resort & age of child, and, not having children myself, I'm not real familiar with those deals - if there is a resort you are interested in, you might consider calling to see what type of total package they can put together for you - sometimes, they are downright reasonable.

Thanks KMK,

we'll check out the Tahoe place....lol...if we go there, i'll give you an update!

good suggestion about staying a bit away from the mt, and driving....would love to stay by the slopes, but i think the savings will be well worth a bit of a drive....

and we'll look at condos & call some places for family discounts.

thanks for all your help...i'll keep you posted about our "finds"! Thanks!
