We are taking a 9 day trip to New Mexico via motorcycle. One of our traveling days we will be traveling from Taos to Albuquerque and want to stay either at a very neat place or downtown in the historic district. We want someplace that has a night life but not to fancy. Anyone have any suggestions?

In Taos, Albuquerque or in between??
What price range?
What does very neat mean to YOU?
I think they want to stay in Albuquerque.
Answers to DebitNM's other questions would be really helpful, though.

Last nights that DW and I spent in Albuquerque were at the Route 66 Hostel. The room at the top of the stairs had its own bathroom. The walls were painted Pepto-Bismol pink. My wife and I still joke about that room.
Not much night life in that end of Central Avenue. There is probably lots more going on near the University of NM.
