We'll stay for 2 more nights after a week with a group. We will not have a car, please don't suggest. I am only asking which area is better/safer, not for a hotel name. We are not late night people.
From what I understand, the best bus traffic is along Central street, this may be the best for our hotel for 2 nights? Friday and Saturday nights, leaving Sunday. I am not sure what exactly we will be visiting as we want to see places/museums that the tour group will not cover.
The areas I am looking at:
1) Central and Tramway or Juan Tabo
2) Central and Golf Blvd (west of the river)
3) Old Town
4) Central and 6th Street
5) Central and 2nd Street
Which of the above is better?

Central and 6th or 2nd are downtown. They would be safe enough. There are a lot of clubs downtown, so it could get a little noisy at night.
Old Town would be fine; there are B&Bs in and around Old Town, and the Hotel Albuquerque is a little north on Rio Grande. I don't know that I would stay right on Central.
Juan Tabo and Tramway are both on the east end of town. There isn't much to do in the area, and it would be a long bus ride to get to anything you'd want to do.
Central and Golf doesn't make sense to me. There is a road called Goff, but it doesn't cross Central, and there are no motels nearby.
I would look at something in the Uptown area. You should be able to get buses regularly and the area is nicer.
What museums and places are you seeing on your tour?
Lee Ann
Lee Ann, thank you! I am not sure what we'll see with the group - it's Elderhostel, now called Road Scholar, and they don't post exact itinerary - just like any tour. So we'll have to figure out on Friday what to see till we leave.

I know they will take us to Santa Fe and Taos on "field trips" and main attractions in the city.
I will be looking at the hotels around Old Town and 2nd-6th. As for "Central and Golf" - I looked at the AAA booklet, so it may be an approximate map not to scale.
I checked buses in Uptown - on Saturday they run once in hour or every 45 minutes versus every 15' along Central - and most likely we'll go to... ummm... is it Scania to go up the mountain? It's sort of messed up in my head for now
The Sandia Peak tram is on (wait for it) Tramway.
Not sure on the bus schedule for that.
