Jump to last reply

Hi,

My husband and I are planning our first trip to Alaska. We're both 31 and are very outdoorsy and active. We'll be there for 9 days in late August & will be renting a car. Here's our tentative itinerary:

Day 1 – Sat. Aug. 20– arrive 1:45 a.m. Get rental car & supplies, go to hotel to get some sleep. Drive to Valdez (7+ hrs.), doing scenic stops on the way. Stop at Matanuska

Day 2 – Sun – water taxi to Shoup Bay public use cabin & kayaking. Overnight.

Day 3 – Mon. – Columbia Glacier kayaking tour. Overnight.

Day 4 – Tues – early water taxi to Valdez. Drive on to Byer’s Lake CG or try to make it to Talkeetna for the night.

Day 5 – Wed. – early drive to Denali. Take Eeilson shuttle & hike in park. Overnight Riley Creek CG.

Day 6 – Thurs. – early morning whitewater rafting. Leave about noon, drive to Anchorage. overnight.

Day 7 – Fri. - Drive to Seward (2.5 hrs). Exit Glacier & Harding Icefield Hike. Overnight Seward.

Day 8 – Sat. – all-day Bear Glacier kayaking trip. or kayaking around the bay.

Day 9 – Sun. - 8 a.m. to 2 pm. Kenai Fjords NP wildlife tour. OR Aailak Bay tour. drive to Anchorage for midnight flight.

Please let me know if we're trying to do too much or if you have any suggestions about our trip. We're very open to suggestions, recommendations, etc.
