Alaska itinerary

Jump to last reply

I posted an itinerary and received some good advice. Here's a revised itinerary as a new thread. We're both active and love to see nature and wildlife, but also enjoy cultural activities. Alaska looks similar in some ways to New Zealand, which we've visited twice, and which also involved short stays in several places. We also like the idea of boats to view nature, which we've done in several places, with our favorite being a few nights on a small boat around Cape Horn. I tell you all that, so you know what we might like, but I look to you to help turn this itinerary into a manageable plan.

A couple of concerns. First, we must be in Anchorage by the afternoon of the 12th for a wedding rehearsal dinner, and all of the 13th is given over to wedding activities in Palmer, about 45 minutes up from Anchorage.

Second, We are hitting a lot of places, and I am willing to eliminate some things, but it's difficult to get everything just right, with the wedding on those dates.

August 2 Arrive in Gustavus, 4:30pm, overnight Gustavus
3 Glacier Bay 8 hour catamaran tour, overnight Gustavus
4 fly to Juneau, arrive 8:55am; Mendenhall Glacier, tram up the mountain, overnight Juneau
5 Tracy Arm Fjord all day tour, overnight Juneau
6 Fly to Anchorage at 7:30am, and drive 5 hours to Chitina. Fly to McCarthy/Kennicott, overnight McCarthy
7 Mine and Glacier tours, overnight McCarthy
8 Fly to Chitina, and drive 2:30 to Valdez, overnight Valdez
9 Valdez
10 Fast ferry to Whittier arrives 3:00pm; drive to Girdwood
11 Explore Turnagain Arm, overnight Girdwood
12 drive to 45 minutes to Anchorage, visit AK wildlife Center, rehearsal dinner, overnight Anchorage
13 wedding, overnight Palmer
14 drive to Homer
15 Homer
16 drive to Seward
17 Seward
18 Seward for the day, and then drive back to Anchorage, overnight near aiprot
19 leave at 10am

Any advice is so appreciated! I'm sure I have some wrongheaded ideas. Please correct me. Looking forward to your help.
