In the early stages of planning an Alaskan Cruise and Rail. 2 couples, hoping to go end of June 2013. We want to cruise then take a train thru Alaska. Would it be best to fly into Ancorage or Fairbanks and pick up a cruise? Or. Fly into Vancouver. Has anyone done this? What Cruiseline?
Thank You.

We did the cruise from Vancouver and then did a combination of bus to Talketna, train to Denali and then train to Fairbanks then flew home.
Many suggest doing the reverse so you have the relaxing cruise at the end of the trip. We decided that we were not cruise people and were we to do it again would fly to Anchorage or Fairbanks and explore on our own, perhaps using the ferry system to get to some of the places along the shore. If you click my name you can find my TR on this.
Denali was the best part of the trip.
we flew to Anchorage then took a small plane to Homer where we rented a car. Spent a couple of days seeing the sights there, drove back to Anchorage and started the tour- the train bus portion to Denali, Talkneetka - then cruised back to Vancouver from Seward.
It was a great trip -
