Alaska Cruise- Regal Princess

Never been on a cruise, we like to visit certain islands and relax and enjoy the whole island. Alaska Cruises get such good reports we're considering a trip next july. Has anyone done the 7 day round trip from Vancouver? How is the Regal? We like luxury accomadations and the ship looks good ,any disappointments? Also, what are the don't miss excursions?
Thanks in advance.

hi Bart, I've done both the inside passage and glacier cruises. They are both excellant cruises and many excellant ships sail these itineraries. The Regal is a very good ship with great accomodations. I would recommend the mini-suite with balcony, or an outside double with balcony. The Princess Sun & Dawn also do this itinerary and they have excellant facilities as well. If you have the extra time and want to see some interior of Alaska, do a cruisetour via The Midnight sun Express to either Mt. McKinley Princess Lodge or the Kenai Princess Lodge. The added excursions are of a large variety, but the helo flight to the Mendenhall Glacier is great, also try your hand at kayaking in Ketchikan. There are many fishing charters available, if you want to give that a try. Request your travel agent to call the cruise line and get a listing of excursions for your preview. Whatever you choose, having your morning breakfast and coffee on your balcony, while gliding into one of the glacier areas is a thrill all in itself. Enjoy yourself, you won't regret this trip.

There are many websites specifically for cruises. Try cruises as a keyword and also try Cruise Alaska or Alaska cruises. There should also be forums specifically for Alaska cruises.
Try www.cruiseoutlet.com and www.cruiseweb.com
Good luck!

Thanks for your response to my query on Alaska Cruises. I've searched all around and it seams that Princess has higher ratings (www.cruiseopinion.com) than the other lines that do Alaska. Glad you recommendeded the outside with veranda that's what I was looking at. Are the cabins as large as they look in the fotos? What are your feelings about doing the land portion 1st, Denali, Ankorage, Mt. Mckinley, etc.) and then doing the southern cruise to Vancouver? My original thought was to do a 7 day round trip from Vancouver. Did you buy an air/land/sea package and was it good price? How is the best way to get the best price. Seams that some suggest waiting til th elast minute and others book real early, what have you found?
Thanks in advance. Bart

Great trip Bart. We took the two week cruise-tour a couple of years ago on the Regal and if was wonderful. Make sure to at least get an outside with a balcony if not the suite.
There are alot of chances to pan for gold no matter which tours you choose, its fun to try at least once, you always find a little. Also try one of the helicopter trips and walk on one of the glaciers, it is really an experience that you will never forget.
The Regal is a beautiful ship, the rooms are about as pictured in their brochures, and all have a mini frig to keep what ever you'd like in. The food and service were excellant. They also have large, free, self service laundry facilities onboard that are great if you have just come off the weeks tour.
The tour was great except the train ride is a bit long. Denali was pretty cold when we went and that was in August. Can't say alot for the Princess hotel in Denali, it really wasn't much. But we stayed one night in a suite in Fairbanks that was fabulous, jacuzzi tub large enough for 6 and all.
The only draw back to the weeks tour is the price of your meals, they are really quite expensive up there. Hope this info helps...........Sue

We had a great Alaskan cruise on Regal Princess + land trip. Most important advice I can give is do the land trip first, after all the pampering you get on the cruise coming back to real life ashore can be hard! Weather in June on land trip was quite warm & sunny, was a little cool on the sea cruise. Saw some amazing scenery & wildlife. Highlights were: helecopter trip from Denali. coach trip intop Denali Nat. Pk. Helicopter trip & wild life boat trips from Juneau & seeing glaciers from ship.
