Akron Area

We have found the Akron area to be half way for family coming from the west and us coming from the east - what area would you recommend to stay in / motel etc in the Akron area and what would you recommend to do and places to experience and eat etc. - We will be there Friday of Memorial weeknd and stay about a half week - We have stayed at Sandusky and Mansfield and are familiar with those - Thank You

Hi Ray
We are orginally from the Akron Area so when we return we are with family. However, one of the nicest places to stay would be in the old Quarker Oats building thats been converted into a hotel, the rooms are the old silos and I believe it is a Crown Plaza...toll free phone 1-866-668-6689
Some places to visit would be:
Football Hall of Fame (20 MI) (Canton)
Stan Hywet (4 MI)
Hale Farm and Village (8 MI)
E.J. Thomas Hall (0.25 MI)
Akron Civic Theater (0.25 MI)
Canal Park (Baseball Park) (0.50 MI)
Derby Downs (5 MI)
Six Flags Worlds of Adventure Theme Park (35 MI)
Jacobs Field (Cleveland Indians) (35 MI)
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (35 MI)

I live in the Akron area. If you stay at Quaker Square, as mentioned above, you will be in downtown Akron. The Cleveland Indians' AA team has the best stadium in the minor leages within walking distance. They are called the Akron Aeros. Also within walking distance is the National Inventors' Hall of Fame. Kids can make things in the lower part. Adults can read about inventors. I hope you have fun here.

great answers in general about akron

stan hywet is an old graceful industrialist's mansion, with wonderful grounds

the football hall of fame and the minor league park are interesting, if you are into these things

there is a place where john brown stayed before he went to harper's ferry that is interesting

cleveland has some other places of interest--the art museum is first-rate--

also, during the summer the cleveland orchestra-- and other musical stuff--perform outside at a place called blossum center, which is near cuyahoga falls--

there is a nice sheraton hotel in cuyahoga falls, right near a freeway

also, there is amish country about 1 hour south of akron

The baseball team is called the Akron Aeros. Their website is www.akronaeros.com. Check there for the schedule. Montrose is a very busy area with lots of retail and chain resturants. The area is safe, clean and very near the highway. It is about 15 minutes from downtown Akron. If you have time and want to eat at a great, upscale, restaurant, try Ken Stewart's Grill on W. Market St.{route 1. Also West Point Market is a fantastic gourmet store. Hope this helps.

I can't add much because the other posters have given excellent suggestions.

I just wanted to let you know that Montrose is a nice area. I stayed at an Extended Stay America there last summer. Have fun!
