Airport transfers via taxi or subway/bus

Flying into LaGuardia on a Sat and staying in Times Sqaure for 1 night then flying Sunday out of JFK.
Can someone advise the cost of taxi fares for each transfer or another economical and timely mode of transport for these routes?

I did the same thing one year and I took super shuttle that picks up at different hotels.. you call them, tell them what time your flight is, what hotel you are staying at, and they tell you what time you will be picked up.. if I remember right it was $15..

Taxi from LGA is metered. Should cost about $30-35 including toll and tip.
Fares to (and from JFK) are a set fare of $45, not including tunnel toll of $4 and tip of 15%-20% of fare.

The Super Shuttle (in NYC) is dreadful. Avoid at all cost.

From LGA, your best options are
>the NY Airport Express shuttle to Port Authority bus terminal @42 st & 8th
ave. if you're alone ~$13/person
http://www.nyairportservice.com/

>taxi from official taxi stand on the meter should be $30-35. Don't accept a ride from anyone! Sat. matinees are at 2 pm so if you're arriving then, you could run into traffic.

>if you want a fixed rate, you can order a car service like carmellimo.com or dial7.com I like limores.net

Getting to JFK if you don't have much luggage you might want to consider the train.

>subway/airtrain--You can get the E subway at Port Authority or at 50th & 8th ave. take it to Sutphin Blvd. where you change for the AirTrain to JFK. This costs $7/person ($2 for subway $5 for AirTrain).

>LIRR/AirTrain--For a bit more you can take the Long Island Railroad train from Penn Station (34 st. & 7th) and connect to the AirTrain for ~$10-12/person.

>bus--You can also grab the Airport Express bus mentioned above from Port Authority for $15/person.

>A taxi is fixed fare of $45 with tip and toll it usually comes to ~$60.

For one night splurge and get a cab.

Any sort of shuttle will only save you a couple of dollars and take forever.

The subway/bus route will eat up the majority of your time you are in NYC.

Being a weekend, you should not hit that much traffic on either of the trips. I would utilize the bus service both ways, the cost of which will be far less than half the taxi fare.

How many of you are there. For one person the shuttle to Port Authority (but then you have to cab or subway or walk to your hotel) is considerably less than the $35 or so cab fare. for 2 people it's a wash.

Do NOT take the Super Shuttle. they stop at numerous hotels in midtown ttraffic and it will take forever to get to your hotel.

To JFK the shuttle fro Port Authority or Grand Central will be a savings ($17 I think) versus cab for one person. Again, for 2 people there isn;t much difference (cab is $45 plus tip and toll for $55 to $60).

I'll second the E train- air train (total of $7). I've done both that and the taxi and the train was far more pleasant. (Unless you have a ton of luggage.)

You could use public transportation in both directions. From La Guardia you would take the M60 bus to Broadway and 116th St., and then the no. 1 train to Times Square (cost $2--free transfer), and to go to JFK you take the A train to the AirTrain (total cost $7). It obviously takes longer than a taxi, so it is less timely but more economical.

You need to realize that NYC buses and subways are not luggage friendly. Fine for a student with a back pack - but if you have sizeable luggage you will hve to negotiate stairs, often several sets, long passageways, going up and down bus steps - and have nowhere to stow the luggage.

Also - during rush hours both buses and subways can be mobbed - leaving little or no room for any luggage.

To get to JFK from Times Square, I'd take the E train to the AirTrain--the A train is a much longer ride.
