Is San Francisco the closest airport to napa valley? Also, if anyone has any recommendations for places to stay, please let me know!! My fiancee and I are going to be in mexico for our honeymoon and we're planning to go to san fran and the napa valley area to finish off our trip for a few days... thanks everyone!! Ali

Hi Allison12, either SanFrancisco or Oakland airports will be the best for you. Both airports have BART that will take you in to SF if you do not want to pick up a rental car at the airport.

Wishing you a beautiful honeymoon and have fun in SF and Napa Valley.

Oakland is the closer, and easy to get to. I would suggest you stay in Sonoma County, rather than Napa. In Sonoma itself, there is a four sisters Inn called Inn at Sonoma, which is just terrific. Close enough to bike to many wineries (and they have bikes for you to use, gratis), and close enough to walk to the Square, with it's historic buildings, boutiques, shops and restaurants, we found it to be superior to Napa Valley.-

Oakland is closer to Napa but the drive from San Fran through the city and over the golden gate is much more scenic.

I personally like Sonoma better also but if you have not been before, either valley will be great!

Both SFO and OAK,via I-80 are about 60
miles to Napa. An hour's drive in non-commute hours. SFO to Napa via the Golden Gate Bridge is about 75 miles
and will take about 1 1/2 hours during non-commute times. You might consider
SMF (Sacramento), it's about 1 hr.
to Napa during non-commute times.

I think I would shop for what is important to you-best price/FF miles/
arrival-departure times-the BART access
to SFO into San Francisco would be
important to me-then I would only need a car to travel from the City to Napa.

Congratulations!

You may want to consider an area that's convenient to both SF and Napa. A reasonable and very hotel in Marin County, called Acqua, is along Tiburon/Mill Valley area. Friends who had stayed liked the boutique-hotel ambiance, the convenience of a parking spot in their hotel that is also a quick drive/bus/ferry commute away to San Francisco (less than 10 minutes from GG Bridge).

I hav never stayed at Acqua as we maintain a residence in both Marin and NYC, but was in town this weekend and was able to check out Acqua when I met up a buddy who's visiting to do SF and wine tasting in Napa and the hotel is in a very nice area of Tiburon with a water view ( and right next to a couple of dealerships of fine and high-end imported Italian cars, in case you're into these).

Ditto R5's suggestions on SMF...but if it's your honeymoon, I'd say SFO and stay in SF...not Sacramento!

Leave the "Cowtown Romancin'" to guys like me!

Staying in SF and potentially flying out of Sacramento? You'd better be prepared for the 3+ hour drive back to the airport.
