Hello!
I am going to the Newport Folk Festival next month. Lodging is extremely expensive in Newport, RI. Are there any towns nearby where lodging is reasonable and/or are there any inexpensive hotels in Newport?

Middletown borders Newport to the north and there are some less expensive chain motels there.
My husband and I recently stayed one nite at the Pineapple Inn on Coddington Hwy on the Newport/Middleton border near the Navy Base.
Very basic accomodations -- kind of like a motel from the 50's, but has a/c, cable, and was quiet. The rate was $50 midweek but may be more for special events.

Here's another recommendation for Middletown. Try Seaview Inn, Seabreeze Inn, and the Best Western Atlantic Beach Hotel (all these are on the water).
Though, it is awfully late to be booking. Most folks book this year for next year.
Thank you for the information. It was difficult to find a place at a reasonable price for the nights we needed. Even Motel 6 was fully booked!
We booked the Pineapple Inn. It is $119.95 for Fri. and Sat. night and $49.95 for Sun. night. I saw a picture of it on the website. It does look basic, but that's good enough for us.
Wow!! Glad to be of help. $50 is about what it is worth. Can't believe their rates for the weekend are that high. Must be quite a demand.
Have fun at the festival. K.
