Has anyone stayed at the Affinia Manhattan? They have a fridge and coffee maker which the Moderne does not have. The price is also very similar. The location is not as ideal as it is further south. Interested in your feedback. Thanks!

I'm not sure I agree that the location is less ideal. It's actually more central as it's close to more transportation options. Not perhaps as close to Times Square, but that's not necessarily a disadvantage. It's my least favorite of the Affinia hotels, and it's on busy 7th Avenue, but you have good food options at the doorstep (Kyochon, for instance) and you're a couple of blocks from Macy's, across the street from Madison Square Garden.
I have no idea what the price is, but have you checked the Residence Inn(s)? They have a full kitchen. The one on Sixth Avenue is only a block from Bryant Park.
Thanks, Doug. I should have clarified re: the location. I usually stay around W 57th and know that there is a grocery store a block away. I also like to relax in Central Park. I'm not as familiar with the area surrounding the Affinia Manhattan. Times Square is not a draw for us. We'll take in a show but not really visit that area of town. I've also stayed at the Affinia 50 and found it very comfortable. I think we'll opt for the fridge and coffee maker. I love my morning coffee!

There is not a real grocery store near that hotel, but you'll find a full-service Asian supermarket that has many regular grocery items on 32nd Street between 5th and 6th. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name. It's kind of nondescript. But there are several convenience stores nearby where you can buy milk and breakfast stuff.
But definitely do not miss Bon Chon or Kyochon for Korean-style fried chicken wings. They are both on 5th Ave., and while not cheap, they are really good.
I recently stayed there for a week on business with my partner. I find the location great, in fact. Our only problem was we had a less than ideal room. It was quite large but very oddly laid out in a long line of "cubby holes". There was a fairly major counter for a mini kitchen. But our room was on a fairly low floor and looked out onto a roof of a lower part. It was being used as the staging spot for exterior painting and repairs to the building, so we had to keep it closed up all the time. And the worst part (even though it was in April) was that there was NO air conditioning. I read reviews that say even in the summer you cannot control AC individually and that could be a major issue.
The decor was new and kind of fun, including a very "modern" trendy sort of bath.
By the way, the restaurant in the hotel is quite good and amazingly reasonable for a New York Hotel -- even for breakfast.
