advice on the ritz carlton - maui

Just curious as to your experiences at the RC - Maui. Was the service/resort up to RC expectations?
We are thinking of doing 5 nights at the FS/Maui and 4 night RC/Maui
Thanks for your help!

The Ritz is very nice. I stayed there in Feb and my only complaint is the walk down to the beach - about 1/4 mile. You are smart to split up the trip at two hotels so you can experience what different parts of the island have offer.

Also, 9 days is perfect. I went for 7 and that's two short with the jet lag.

I just got back from the RC this week after 4 day stay at the Club Level. The resort is beautiful - including the hotel grounds, pool area, beach and surrounding views. The service also met my expecations, especially at the Club. Maid service was very good - the first day our room was not done by mid-afternoon. We spoke to the maid and let her know that we like to come back to the room for an afternoon nap - after that our room was made early and quickly. Turn down service every evening also. Concierge was very good with making reservations, checking flights for us. Overall the staff was professional and courteous.

Rooms were very comfortable (great bed) and bathroom was large, with two sinks and separate shower and tub. Nice large balcony also.

The beach is about a 3 or 4 minute walk down a path from the hotel. I could see how some people might find it inconvenient but it really didn't bother me at all. At the beach, there are lounge chairs on a grassy area facing the ocean (but not right on the sand). There is a restaurant serviing lunch right at the beach also.

Husband and I visited the RC Maui one morning in December 04 (we were staying in a condo in Kaanapali). We started out down at the beach (DT Fleming) and wanted to walk up to the hotel. We didn't get two steps and a couple of hotel employees in a golf cart insisted we get in and they drove us up to the hotel. I would assume this would work in reverse as well.

If I had the disposable income I would definitely stay at the RC Maui. Very nice hotel, grounds, pool and staff.

WE spent 4 nights on club level in November04, and it was very good. We would not hesitate to stay there again. We then spent 3 weeks in a two bedroom condo at Makena Surf, and would recommend that as an option rather than the fs. We walked around and through the fs, and it is very nice, but we loved our private condo on the beach. Cheers, Al

Boxer - you are right. You can always catch a ride on one of the golf carts to and from the beach.

My husabnd and I stayed their using Marriot points in October 2003. Accordingly, we had the lowest level room one could get there but the service was still excellant. Although its a trek to the beach, the pool area is close and beautiful. However, my extensive research reveals a lot of travelers recommonding FS above RC. Accordingly, they say to stay at RC first so you will not be disappointed. You must try Plantation House which is a five minute drive from RC if you go.
