Advice needed about today's children

Scene: Spring break with two seniors and a 14-year-old granddaughter in New York City.

Advice needed: She wants to go to Greenwich Village and thinks "it'd be cool to go to coffee houses and listen to people play." She says she's a "Monkees/Beatles/Paul Revere and the Raiders/Simon and Garfunkel type person."

We're ignorant about the NYC scene, but we'll try anything. What would you Fodorites suggest? Thanks VERY much.
