My wife and I are contemplating a trip to include Natchez, to see some of the antebellum mansions. Are we better off to go during pilgrimage time and see some of the houses that are only open at that time, or will we be just as well off to go during the off-season and visit the houses that are open year around? How many houses can one visit before they start to look alike? Is it better to do some over two or three days? Thank you.

I think you could see all you want to see in 2/3 days in the off season. The Pilgrimage is too busy for me but it is a gorgeous time to be there. Stay at Monmouth Plantation if possible. Visit Stanton Hall and have lunch there. Visit Dunleith and have lunch or dinner at The Castle Restaurant. When you leave Natchez go S to New Orleans for a few days or head N up # 61 to the Delta. Stay in Greenwood, MS at the 4 * Alluvian Hotel owned by Viking Range. Have dinner at Lusco's.

I think you would be doing yourself an injustice if you did not also visit Longwood Plantation in Natchez. It's a mansion that was in construction when the Civil War began. Though ground level of the house was finished, the higher floors were never completed. A stirring comment on the impact of the Civil War.
Littleman's restaurant recs are good. When we go, we also usually eat at Biscuits and Blues, the Pig Out Inn (best potato salad EVER), Fat Mama's Tamales (when I start craving margaritas), and Pearl Street Pasta. Antique shopping in the area is also excellent.

BradShawGirl is correct. Longwood is an outstanding home to visit. My wife and I were there two years ago. It's depressing to me that a beautiful place was never finished. We also drove up to see the Ruins at Windsor. Biscuits and Blues, Pig Out Inn and Pearl Street are nice. I like Center St. Bistro also. And go to Old Country Store in Lorman on # 61 if you go N of Natchez to Vicksburg.
