Adirondacks Region

I am searching for a place for five girlfriends to retreat for a three day weekend. I have visited Lake Placid years ago, great time, but am thinking of someplace not so touristy. Want to get a cabin or cottage on the water. Although we will be making some meals, we'll want to be driving distance to some dining. I did see a message posted on Blue Mountain Lake and Long Lake that sounded nice. Any help would be appreciated!

Saranac Lake is about 10 minutes from Lake Placid and about an hour (?) from Blue Moutain Lake. In Saranac Lake, you can stay on the Upper Saranac Lake, the Lower Saranac Lake, possibly St. Regis Lake or Lake Flower (not as nice or as big but it goes into the lower Saranac Lake). Not anywhere as exciting as Lake Placid but it's a nice town and the lakes are great! Wherever you stay, it's a beautiful region, so have fun!

Years ago I stayed overnight at a place called "Potters Cabins" (or cottages?) at Blue Mountain Lake. I don't know if they're still there or not, but the place seemed ok. My cabin was across the road from the lake, but I seem to recall that they had cabins or a main lodge on the lake. As you find yourself farther from "touristy" places in the Adirondacks, you will also find less "dining" choices, most being diners & bars. Think "Northern Exposure", the TV program a few years ago!

Try the Irondequoit Inn. They have a web site. It is great. If you go, be sure to have dinner at Melody Lodge in Speculator.

We stayed in Blue Mountain Lake for the past three years--Potters Cabins are still there, but I was never impressed with the way they looked-on the road is a good desription. We stayed at Prospect Point Cabins--they just built some new bigger cabins that may be able to accomidate everyone--the manager is great and they were reasonably priced and they were on their own peninsula on Blue Mountain Lake

I just saw the newly renovated Lake Pleasant Inn in Speculator and it looks very nice. They took an old motor lodge and stripped it down to the studs and re-did all the rooms. There is also a lodge on the premise with a nice living room and a restaurant. It is right on the lake, with a nice public beach right next door. It is also right in town (well, it is a very small town...)Some things are a little unfinished (like the landscaping) but they were working hard on it while I was there this week. They have a web site.

Let us know where you decide to go!
