adams morgan - safety

DH and I will be attending a conference at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park next month. We would love to have dinner at a restaurant or two in the Adams Morgan neighborhood. Would it be safe to walk back to the hotel after dinner or is a taxi a good idea?

I would feel quite comfortable doing that walk.

Lots of good restaurant opportunities are also available close to your hotel as well as up Connecticut Ave in Cleveland Park and down Conn Ave to Dupont Circle. Walk or take the metro one stop in either direction.

I have walked in that neighborhood with a female friend at night and felt fine about it. DuPont Circle is not too far to walk to from the hotel.

DuPont Circle is farther though than Adams Morgan from your hotel (I've stayed at that hotel, and in Dupont Circle, and walked the distance plus some).

In general AM is safe and i would feel fine doing that walk. It gets really crowded in AM on the weekends, and sometimes rowdy with all the bars.
AM is maybe 15 minutes (~½ mile) from your hotel while DuPont Circle is closer to half an hour (a little over a mile) straight up Conn. Ave. If you wanted to go to DuPont Circle and didn't want to walk you could take the Redline metro 1 stop to Dupont Circle.

I agree -- generally safe.

FWIW, you might want to consider having dinner on at least one night at Petits Plats, which is right by your hotel. Consistently good French cuisine, relaxed setting, unpretentious service....

The Lebanese place next to Petits Plats is also very nice.
