Adam's Mark Hotel or Brookstown Inn in Winston-Salem?
Has anyone stayed at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Winston-Salem? We're planning to visit Old Salem in December, and are considering this hotel. I found rates on their website ranging from $89 (weekend discount, room code B) to $145 (concierge level, room code A). Is this a nice hotel for a family with young kids, and is it convenient to Old Salem, Reynolda Village, etc? We're also considering the Brookstown Inn ($145 for a junior suite with 2 queen beds) based on AAA reviews and on reviews on this forum, but the pictures on their website make the furnishings look a bit... tacky. Any opinions? Thanks for your help.

We stayed in the Adam's Mark Hotel about a month ago. The public spaces are very nice, the rooms only so so. The staff was not very nice to a member of our group who were traveling with a very young baby, but otherwise it was fine. It is located near an artsy section of W-S which we enjoyed browsing in. Eat at Sweet Potatoes. We had a wonderful lunch there.

I live in WS, so I have no experience with staying in either property, but both are considered to be nice. The Brookstown Inn is closer to Old Salem (within walking distance), but Adam's Mark is not far away either. Adam's Mark is more of a full-service place, and has the reputation of being the primo hotel property in WS.
I think you will enjoy our downtown which is going through quite a revival. We have some excellent restaurants there, Sweet Potatoes is only one, but is very, very good. Try the Auction House as well.
December is a good time to visit. Old Salem is a restored settlement of Moravians and they always have a candle tea during the holidays, which consists of tours of the Single Brothers House and coffee and sugarcake. You also will be given a beeswax candle trimmed in red paper which is part of our candlelight lovefeast celebration of Christmas.
You will find unique shops and good restaurants. Christmas shop to your heart's content.
Welcome to Winston-Salem.

Thank you both for your replies. We live in Asheville, and have been trying to get over to W-S for the longest time, but since it's so close we keep putting it off as something we can do anytime. I'm hoping we can finally make it over there this time!
I've never heard of Sweet Potatoes or the Auction House. What kind of food do they serve?
Thanks again!

Sweet Potatoes serves sweet potatoes! When we ate there, we had a wonderful salad with lots of fresh greens. They also served baked sweet potatoes and a to-die-for sweet potato cheesecake. And I don't usually like cheese cake! The menus I guess could be categorized as American/New Southern cooking. Very good
