Accommodation Near Crater Lake

Going to Crater Lake in October. Tried to get into Lodge but no vacancies. Looking for suggestions for accommodation closeby. Thanks

I looked at this place as a backup last year but ended up finding a last minute cancellation at Crater Lake Lodge http://craterlakeresort.com/

I have stayed at Prospect Inn- an old stage coach stop- in the tiny town of Prospect.

They do provide meals- which are very good.

Also there is Steamboat Springs which is more expensive and right on the beautiful Umqua River.

There are many fires around there- hope some of them will have been put out by then. I know parts of Hwy 138 have been closed.

In addition to keeping an eye on the fire situation, it can snow in October. Last October we arrived to 3 ft of snow and the north entrance and rim road closed for the season already.

I LOVED prospect inn, but it may not be close enough for you.

Agree that snow is a bigger concern than smoke in October.

It's about 37 miles from Prospect to Crater Lake

Hm. You're right, sunbum, I could have sworn it took me at least an hour but traffic was pretty heavy then too. Never mind. Prospect Inn was a lot of fun, and very affordable.
