we just returned from aspen and snowmass. we learned that after the slopes close many people leave until the summer activities begin. and many restuarants close. we did find a few still open-BB's kitchen, which was great for lunch with a nice deck with a view of aspen mountain. and for dinner--on the pedestrian mall we enjoyed Above the Salt.

rooms were pretty cheap. we stayed at the innsbruck inn on main st for about $140 , which we reserved on orbitz. they had free bikes and a computer available for free.
the room was very nice.

we hiked up to the Maroon Bells-to get there go out of town on 82 toward snowmass and turn at the church and go by aspen high school. keep going past aspen highlands up the mountain. the drive is beautiful. at the top the road dead ends. ther is a nice small area for people to camp, as well as many trails. We hiked around the lake and got snowed on a bit..

We rented a place in snowmass and cooked in mostly. there is a golf course there which looked pretty interesting and is set in a wonderful location. there was a city market, as well as other shops, in a shopping area just west of basalt--maybe 6 miles away from snowmass on 82.
