a very short, uneventful trip report of our 10 days in south Kona
We arrived on Thanksgiving day about 12:30 pm. Flights were on United DEN-SFO and SFO-KOA. I was upgraded to first class on the first leg--but, devoted wife that I am, I gave the seat to DH--who is recovering from a total knee replacement. But no upgrades on the second leg- I always enjoy arriving in the Kona airport- open air-palm trees-the scent of plumeria from the lei stands in the terminal.
Picked up the rental and stopped at Safeway to get provisions for Thanksgiving dinner - which turned out to be shrimp scampi. And then onto our rental house in south Kona where we have stayed several times. Beautiful house on the pali overlooking Kealakekua Bay with a huge lanai to a to die for view of the Kona coast.
And now here comes the short part of the report--we didn't do much besides hanging out at the house and visiting with friends. DH visited Ke'ei beach at least once a day--it's about a 10 minute drive from the house.
We had 6 friends over for dinner one night--and it was a lovely, lively party. We went out to dinner one night at one of our favorite restaurant--Mi's Italian Bistro http://www.misitalianbistro.com/. We had lunch at Lotus Cafe http://www.thelotuscafe.com/ on Friday when we made the Costco run. Other lunches--we had take out from Kalama's and Super J's (I had been craving her laulaus and lomi salmon) and we went to lunch at Kona Coffee House and Cafe (lovely fresh fish) http://konahomesteadcoffee.com/?page_id=44
Other than that our days consisted of Kona coffee on the lanai watching the sun rise over Mauna Loa, reading, floating in the pool, looking at the ocean.
Our departure dinner was at the Harbor House restaurant at Honokohau Marina on the way to the airport. Non-stop flight KOA-DEN-arriving freezing Denver about 7 am on Dec. 8.
DH kept up his PT while we were there and was able to ditch the cane by the time we left.
Now only 10 weeks til we're back (for four weeks)!! Hope the time goes quickly.
