A tour of an Amish Community near Midland MI

Hi- I will be in Midland, MI in a few weeks with my 10-yr old. I'd like to take a tour of a Amish community or something similar to give my daughter a hands on learning experience. Does anyone know where there is such tour near Midland, MI or within 3-hr drive?

Thanks

We go to MI a lot and have been in Midland, but must admit I have not seen much of an Amish Community there. If it is there it is not as obvious as the Amish Communities in Holmes County Ohio, some areas of Indiana or Lancaster, PA Area. We really enjoy going to the Holmes County Area of Ohio as there are tons of Amish and you can drive around on the county roads and to the small towns where they do all their business and it is an interesting and fun experience. There are also lot of restaurants with Amish cooking and it is fabulous home cooking. I will have to ask our friends who live near Midland if there is much of an Amish Community near them.

I just looked up the Amish in MI and it shows the largest number are in the St Joseph County Area near Centreville which is near the SW part of the state. It also shows other Amish settlements in some other areas but none mentioned the Midland Area. you might want to put it into the computer and see what you find. Good luck.

I would say that you would have better luck in Shipshewana, Indiana. Although that area has become more commercialized, there may be more options for what you are looking for.

Thanks both @Cali and @Gardendiva. I should probably wait until I have opportunities to go to Ohio or Indiana where there are better established tours..

While I'm not sure that there are any organized tours, there are several nice Amish settlements with lots of home-based businesses (that is my favorite ways to enjoy visiting the Amish) near Midland....There is a large settlement just east of Clare, Michigan and some large communities near Mio and Marlette to the north of Midland...both are within easy drives of Midland, probably Clare is the closest.
