Thanks to the Fodor's guide to New England, we happened upon the Adair Inn in Bethlehem, New Hampshire.
While Bethlehem does not have much to offer
itself other than approximately ten antique shops, it is close to some neat areas like The
Flume and to some playhouse theatre performances.
The Adair was our DREAM B&B.
While not as historic a home
(built in the 1920's as a
wedding gift), the house had wonderful
architectural details, lovely, well-appointed
rooms, and even a wonderful billiard room with
stone walls and floors in the basement, including
a separate little room for bar service and
complimentary snacks and sodas, a great selection
of movies for a rainy day and a large screen
television as well as wonderful books to read
by delightful fireplace. The grounds are
gorgeous, including beautiful flowers and a
reflection pool, a gated fountain area, a tennis
court and shuffleboard.
The food was wonderful. The public rooms were
inviting and a lovely public dining room with
beatiful woods and a great fireplace
served New England fare and decadent desserts.
Breafast was perfect, complete with great coffee,
fruit compote, cheese popovers, and stuffed
french toast.
A wonderful discovery!
