A good place to ZZZZZZZZ....

After three nights in Camden, Ma. and visiting the surrounding areas, we will leave our Inn after breakfast and travel down the Maine coast going towards New Haven,Conn.

Any suggestions for a good nights sleep and some decent food. AAA has us routed 495 out towards Wooster but we aren't quite sure if we want that route or the southern coastal route.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Camden to New Haven is only a 6 hour drive. I'd spend the 4th night in Camden, no question. However, The SleighMaker Inn in Westborough Mass is very nice.

Thanks joesorce for your suggestions.

We check into our Inn in Camden the evening of 9/15 for a three nite stay. Being seniors, we will not be hiking around, just enjoying the sights and eating lots of lobster and local foods. After breakfast on 9/18 we take off. Does this give us enough time to see to see the highlites of the coast? Is Kennebunkport worth a visit with a possible stay.

Sorry to sound so clueless.

Thanks again

Yes, Kennebunkport will be lovely at that time of year. I can recommend the Kennebunkport Inn or the Green Heron. Ogunquit is another place to consider.

However, you should know that you really see very few "highlights of the coast" by driving down Route 1 from Camden. Route 1 is considered the coastal route in Maine, but really you have to get off route 1 and drive out into the peninsulas and bays to get any real highlights. I would recommend probably heading for Cape Elizabeth (Two Lights Lobster Shack)....then continuing down to Kennebunkport. Camden to Cape Elizabeth will be a little over two hours, and from the Lobster Shack to Kennebunkport will be another hour or less.

Thanks again, joesorce.

This trip happened quite suddenly and what at first seems fairly easy..isnt. And having never visited the Maine coast, it has taken me a while to understand just where we will be. You are right in advising a trip out into the peninsulas..it's necessary. Cape Elizabeth sounds good as well as Two Lights Lobster. After Kennebunkport, I don't know how far we will travel to spend the night. AAA has routed us on 495 toward Wooster but we may just stay in Kennebunkport.

Again, much gratitude.

Great time of year to visit Maine. I'd stay in Kennebunkport in a heartbeat over Worcester...even though it means a longer drive next day. Even though it's a friday....you probably don't have to book in advance, near Kennebunkport in mid-September you can always find something near Wells Beach or on Route 1 towards Ogunquit. Wing it !
