7 day trip to Colorado and new Mexico

Jump to last reply

I would love some advice. My family has 7 days to travel from May 29-June 5 this summer. Our kids (13,15,17) are wanting to see New Mexico (specifically Carlsbad Caverns), Rocky Mountain NP, and are open to anything else. We are just in the initial planning stages. We had thought about flying into Denver form Charlotte and renting a car.

Can anyone suggest a route, highlights, places to go? We love hiking, sightseeing, big and small cities. Is Carlsbad worth the drive? Should we skip Albuquerque and focus more on Santa Fe? Thanks for any tips. We also like different types of lodging and have saved to make that aspect a nice part of the trip.
