Saw that on TA, the day or two before they had to rescue 10 hikers in the same situation. Probably a lot of them were day hikers, saw a picture earlier in GIN with hikers crossing the stream right next a flash flood sign.

Our Kauai ohana sent us the article asking us if we were doing the NaPali this year. If we do it will just be up to the "OMG Turn".
When we hike Kauai we usually don't go until 2 days after a good rain to let the trails dry out and to let most of the upcountry water finally make it to the ocean, But if some of these people are only there for a limited time, you can't really blame them for giving it a try.
At least they had the good sense NOT to try and cross it.
Gotta love Kauai after a big rain. I can just sit there and watch the "white veins of water" plunge down on the green mountains.

More lazy talk story from GIN. Could they just once do some journalistic homework? Face it, some hikers were foolish daytripper ignoring the current postings, some hikers were prepared campers for a few days and heading back, and some hikers were likely non permitted, but that doesn't mean they acted naively.
Always a happy ending when no one panics and tries to cross the waters.
although, I still don't understand what makes them choose to airlift so many people rather then have them wait it out and drop provisions.
