Hello All-
Looking for ideas for spending the 15-20th of this month in Edgartown. Looks like it will be raining quite a bit

I've perused the posts and the destination guide. They give good ideas for A rainy day - but not enough for five!

I am looking for advice on where to eat (we are staying at the Shiretown Inn), things to do, whether whale watching is feasible (from Nantucket perhaps?). We will have a car and bicycles with us.

Hi Shaya: If you e-mail me I will be glad to e-mail you my personal "Guide" to Martha's Vineyard. I see you are staying at the Shiretown Inn. Great location in the heart of Edgartown. I stayed there years ago in one of the carriage house type rooms. It was more motel-like but nicely furnished. The inn itself is a typical New England inn. Not fancy, but with a pleasant ambiance. You are near some good restaurants. The Vineyard is great to explore by car and bicycle, no matter what the weather is Nantucket is a good day trip, and about a 3 hr.? ferry ride. Hi--just back from a great week on MVY. First, fear not: we were told to expect rain all week because of Frances and everyday was a beach day. Having visited the island many times in September, I would be shocked if you actually encountered that much rain. Even in the rain, exploring the island by foot and bike is a great experience. There is a neat winery (Chicama Vineyards) to tour, great nature preserves with walking trails, and the towns are packed with shopping. We had great meals at the Homeport in Menemsha, Chescas in Edgatown and Alchemy in Edgartown. Have a great time.

And thank you Michael for making me feel much more optimistic. I tried to get reservations at Homeport, unfortunately they've closed for the season...
Still trying to get whale watching info...any takers?

My two favorite restaurants in Edgartown are The Newes in the Kelly Inn, a casual homey pub atmosphere with great light fare; and Alchemy, a wonderful, upscale gourmet dress-up place.
The Newes would be the perfect place to hang out on a rainy day.

Bring or buy some rain gear and ferry over to Chappy to their garden and beautiful beaches and reserves. Same with a drive to Gayhead, stroll the shops. Fried Clams at Menemsha's The Bite and oysters and lobster at Larson's. Check for farmers/artists markets in West Tisbury....and do not miss a visit to Chilmark Choclates, which is a fantastic program in which special needs people make wonderfully fresh chocolates - really amazing project and product! Have fun!!!!!!!
